Have you ever bought a humanoid robot and wondered how to teach it something actually fun—like dancing? No? Fair enough. But as robots become more capable, teaching them new skills is becoming increasingly important. In this talk, the team from TNG Technology Consulting will show how humanoid robots can learn to dance using simulation and machine learning. Starting with a gentle introduction to reinforcement learning, the session explores how robots can learn through trial and error in virtual environments before trying things out in the real world. The speakers will walk through the process of teaching a humanoid robot basic movement skills in simulation—complete with a few entertaining failures along the way. They will also show how human movements from videos can be transferred to a robot to create dance-like behaviors. And to wrap things up: a humanoid robot on stage will (hopefully) end the session with a live dance performance.
