Rare Diseases: Where AI Can Make a Difference (or: the Story of Emma)

16:00 – 17:00

Thursday, 2 July 2026

Emma has to go back to the hospital again and again – not because her doctors don’t care, but because there is simply no approved therapy for her rare disease. Her story is not unique: millions of children and patients worldwide are in the same situation. In this session, Professor Soeren Gersting, founder of iniuva, will discuss Emma’s story to show how AI can help tackle this huge unmet medical need: by radically shortening development times, significantly reducing costs, and increasing the probability that new drugs will actually be approved – all without relying on private or medical patient data. The workshop is designed as an open dialogue: participants are invited to ask questions, voice concerns, and discuss what it really takes to trust AI in medicine.
