Werner Lang

Vice President / Chair bei Technical University of Munich

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Werner Lang is Vice President for Sustainable Transformation and Chair of Energy Efficient and Sustainable Planning and Building (ENPB) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). From 2008 to 2010, he was Professor of Sustainable Building and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at the University of Texas School of Architecture in Austin, Texas. The objective of the ENPB Chair is to develop strategies, methods, technologies, and solution-oriented approaches for construction with a positive ecological footprint. This is intended to enable the realization of buildings with positive environmental impacts. The fundamental use of renewable energies and renewable building materials, as well as the implementation of closed material cycles, are key components in this context. Life cycle analysis and environmental life cycle assessment provide the framework for evaluating such measures and for developing and implementing ecologically positive buildings and districts. In addition to his work as a researcher and university professor, Werner Lang is a partner at the architectural firm Lang Hugger Rampp GmbH Architects in Munich. From 2010 to 2025, he also served as Director of the Oskar von Miller Forum in Munich.
